THE GAP BETWEEN THE GAP™ Rebuilding Your Seat After Trauma:

A Trauma-Informed Breathwork Journey for Riders Ready to Return to Themselves

Falls change everything —
not only in the body,
but in the breath, the mind, the confidence,
and in the quiet place where rider and horse once moved as one.

Trauma for riders isn’t always dramatic.
Sometimes it’s the moment the breath left your body —
and never fully returned.

This journey helps you:

  • soften the freeze
  • unwind the bracing
  • reconnect to your center
  • rebuild your internal seat
  • return to your horse with presence rather than pressure

Here, you do not have to be fearless.
You do not have to “get over it.”
You do not have to pretend you’re fine.

You only need a single micro-moment of awareness —
the Gap Between the Gap™
that becomes the macro shift,
that becomes the quantum return.

Trauma Isn’t Always a Fall

Riders carry trauma in ways the world never sees:

  • the fall that shook your trust
  • the near-fall that only you remember
  • the unspoken shame of “not placing”
  • a coach’s harsh words
  • riding through grief or heartbreak
  • dissociation — “riding behind the veil”
  • anxiety before you even pick up the reins (“rider colic”)
  • pressure to be perfect, composed, unbreakable
  • ruptures in the bond with your horse

Trauma is not what happened.
It’s what stayed in your body after it happened.

This is where we begin.

How This Work Supports Your Recovery

This is gentle, structured, trauma-informed breathwork tailored for equestrians.
We move slowly, safely, in three layers:

1. Somatic Breathwork

To unwind tension, soften freeze, and restore baseline nervous-system safety.

2. Awareness Techniques

Not meditation — but subtle practices that bring your mind back into your body
and help you re-enter presence one breath at a time.

3. Co-Regulation & Relational Repair

Your horse feels everything.
This work helps rebuild the internal rhythm your horse trusts instantly.

The goal isn’t to be fearless.
The goal is to be regulated.

A regulated rider:

  • thinks clearly
  • feels their horse again
  • rides with softer hands
  • makes better decisions
  • communicates without tension
  • rebuilds trust from the inside out

The Gap Between the Gap™

“Trauma is not just what happened.
It’s what stayed in your body after it happened.
When you begin this work, you open a doorway —
the gap between the gap —
a micro-moment of awareness expanding into a macro shift, unfolding into a quantum leap.”

What You May Experience

  • a calmer, steadier nervous system
  • relief from overwhelm and internal bracing
  • clearer thinking and emotional space
  • a return of presence in your seat and hands
  • softer fear responses
  • restored connection with your horse
  • a more grounded sense of self
  • the beginning of inner healing

Ideal For Riders Who…

  • experienced a fall or near-fall
  • feel hesitation in hands, seat, or breath
  • notice anxiety or shutdown around riding
  • ride dissociated without realizing it
  • struggle with confidence post-injury
  • feel disconnected from their horse
  • carry emotional pressure from competition, coaches, or expectations
  • are healing from grief, heartbreak, or major life transitions
  • want to return to the saddle with clarity and safety

What to Bring

  • a quiet space to sit or lie down
  • water
  • optional journal
  • comfortable clothing
  • permission to go slowly

This is a private, supportive container —
a grounded space where your breath leads
and your body chooses the pace.
